In the editor under Settings->Rendering->Anti-Alias, does this option just enable an FXAA post process? Or is this hardware MSAA?

The 'Antialias' option in the Editor toggles the antialias property in the options used to create the WebGL context:

https://www.khronos.org/registry/webgl/specs/latest/1.0/#WEBGLCONTEXTATTRIBUTES

The description for this property is:

antialias If the value is true and the implementation supports antialiasing the drawing buffer will perform antialiasing using its choice of technique (multisample/supersample) and quality. If the value is false or the implementation does not support antialiasing, no antialiasing is performed.

So, no, it doesn't add a post effect to achieve antialiasing.
